Working online...

This week, we had to work with teachers via engrade. We got work from most teacher and the assignment I liked the most was an engish assignment. We had the write a 5 paragraph essay on nonviolence in Ivory Coast. I liked this assignment because there is a lot to say on the topic.

We also had a math chapter test to take which was pretty easy :)

Working in the classroom vs. working online via engrade
I prefer working in the classroom . In the classroom, the teacher can directly answer to your questions whereas via engrade, you need to wait for an answer which can take a day. Another propblem with working via engrade is if your internet doesn't work.

The only thing I like about working online is that you have a lot of time to finish most of the work.

This link is an article about online college classes. I chose it because I wanted to know whether taking online classes was good especially in college.

  1. Hi Marie Arlette, Nice post! I can see you're beginning to get the hang of it!

My suggestions this week are to remember some of the tips in the lessons we read a couple of weeks ago -- pick one area of your week to focus on, and give us your opinion about it in detail.

I see lots of opportunities for really good posts in here -- you could focus on sharing your ENglish report on Nonviolence (we are supposed to do that anyway, aren't you?)

Or you could focus on the online experience and come up with "Marlette's Top 10 Tips for Online School Success!!" or something like that. YOu could come up with suggestions about how it could be made better, or list all the pros and cons and maybe do it in a humorous way. Show your personality in your posts!

My last comment is regarding your link. I am glad to see it in there, but remember - the point of the links is that they are "contextual" to what you are talking about. That means, that the link itself should be tied to a word that is in a sentence about the subject that the link is pointing you to....Whew! Difficult to say!

But imagine this: Instead of saying "I chose this article because ..." you could have written "I think online classes are difficult because, as the author Randall Strauss says, they lack the "Third Dimension"...." and then create a link to the article by highlighting the word Third Dimension and linking it to the actual article. THAT wuld be a "contextual" - in context - link. Then you could continue with your discussion about the challenges of online learning. Do you get it?

ANd by the way, what do you think of this quote from that article?

"WHEN colleges and universities finally decide to make full use of the Internet, most professors will lose their jobs."

Could be content for your next post.....!! ;)

  2. Nicely said.

As an online student for a decade and now, an professor of online courses, I understand the dilemma students face in online learning.

Expressing oneself with humor is a good tip to engage students in discussion board forums. You may also consider using real-life examples to convey the course content.

    Thanks for your time,
    Josh
